Fasting safety and medical disclaimer
ADF Chronicles is an educational and wellness tool. It is not medical advice, and it is not a medical device.
What this app is
ADF Chronicles helps you plan and keep track of a fasting schedule that you have chosen. It does not assess your health, does not know your medical history, and cannot tell you whether fasting is suitable for you. Nothing in the app is a diagnosis, a treatment or a recommendation made for you personally.
The app is intended for adults aged 18 and over.
Talk to a healthcare professional first
Fasting is not appropriate for everyone. Speak with a qualified healthcare professional before you start, and do not rely on this app to decide. This matters most if any of these apply to you:
- You are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- You are under 18.
- You have, or have had, an eating disorder or a difficult relationship with food.
- You have diabetes or take medication that affects blood sugar.
- You take any medication that must be taken with food or on a fixed schedule.
- You have a heart, kidney or liver condition, or another ongoing medical condition.
- You are underweight, or you have recently lost weight without meaning to.
- You are recovering from surgery or illness.
This list is not complete. If you are unsure, ask your clinician.
Longer fasts
Fasts longer than 36 hours carry more risk than shorter ones, and the app asks you to confirm before it saves one. The longest fast the app will schedule is 72 hours. A longer fast is not a better fast. If you are considering fasting beyond a day and a half, discuss it with a healthcare professional.
When to stop
End your fast and eat if you feel unwell. Do not push through symptoms to finish a fast or protect a streak.
If food or weight is taking over
If you find yourself anxious about eating, fasting to make up for meals, or unable to stop thinking about your weight, please talk to a doctor or a mental health professional. In the United States, the National Alliance for Eating Disorders can help you find support.
Numbers in the app
Fast times, hours, streaks and weights are records of what you entered and what your schedule says. They are not measurements of your health. Weight changes from week to week for many reasons, and the app does not interpret them.
No guarantees
ADF Chronicles makes no promise about results, including weight loss. You are responsible for your own decisions about fasting and for seeking professional advice.
